Phil and James Younghusband held a special meet and greet with their fans at Kenny Rogers, SM Mall of Asia, last Saturday afternoon, November 26. Aside from doing the usual photo-ops and autograph signing, the brothers even manned the cashier and served food to several lucky customers. It was a fun break for both Phil and James who are gearing up for the high-profile football match of the Philippine Azkals versus LA Galaxy featuring British icon David Beckham, American star Landon Donovan, and Irish striker Robbie Keane at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on December 3. In an interview with Push.com.ph, the two expressed their excitement to play football with not just an idol, but a world-famous star midfielder to boot. “It’s great for the team especially for us because we’ve been David Beckham’s fans since we were 7 or 8 years old. We haven’t had much time to prepare since it was very short notice. We’ll train for a week then we’d play on Saturday,” said Phil. James added that LA Galaxy’s visit to Manila is truly something to be proud of. “We’re very excited and a bit nervous at the same time. I hope we would be able to do a great show for the Philippines. It’s actually a fantastic dream come true to be able to play with them. When I meet David Beckham, I’m going to tell him to keep on coming to the Philippines to promote football here. That’s what we really want to do.” At the same time, the Azkals’ midfielder didn’t deny that he would definitely be star struck by David just like other football fans. “I’m going to ask for his jersey. Hahaha! I’m sure Phil and I are going to be very star-struck and it’s definitely an experience I’d never forget. We’re competing on a high level now so it’s a great opportunity.
